1-6-05 Good Morning Hero!!!! How are you doing? Today we are going to lunge over jumps goody goody huh!!! I take hero out of his stall and groom him. I then put a bridle on him and take off the reins, I thread the lead rope though the bit over his head and attach it to the other side of the bit. I lead him out to the ring and begin to lunge him trot him around for a little bit to get him used to the lunge line. After he is completely warmed up I set up a pole on the rail and make a shoot using jump blocks. I lunge him through the shoot and he trots over the pole I then have him canter over the pole a few times and he is fine with it. After that I put in another pole 3 strides away from the first. I have him canter through and he is fine. I then make the 2nd one a 1 ft jump he canters through and hops over it. Good Boy!!! I then make the 1st a 1’ jump and the 2nd a 2’ jump. He goes through and jumps it no problems. I continue to raise the 2nd jump in 2’’ intervals. Each time he clears it perfectly. Good boy. He make is to 3’ and I stop him to make sure he is no tired, which he isn’t. How high can you go boy huh??? I them continue to raise it leaving the 1’st set a 1’. The jump eventually reaches 3’6’’ and I praise him and stop. Good boy, you can obviously go higher but we will see how high you can go with someone on your back.
I un-tack and groom him.
1-6-05 Hey their Hero, how are you, it is time for cross-country again. I tack him up and warm him up on the way out to the cross country he is not as spook this time and he is getting used to it. I canter and then gallop him around the field a little bit and then warm him up over jumps he had jumped out there before. I then introduce him to a new fence. Ok boy this is a bush. The bush is about 2’ wide and 2’ 3’’ high; he is quite hesitant at first because he has never jumped anything this high on the cores-county course before. He jumps it but very disorganized. I take him over it 4 more times and he gets more comfortable with it. I then make up a small 5-jump course containing the jumps he has jumped before. He has a nice pace though out the course, he is a little hesitant going from jump to jump. I do the course 2 more times and then cool him out by walking him back to the barn.
You were very good!

1-7-05 Good Morning Hero!!! How are you this morning??? Today we will start with cross-country; I know I know we ended with that yesterday but I want to get you real used to it. I tack him up and warm him up on the way out. This time there is no gallop around the course and I start off over a small 2’ jump he has never seen before. He side steps a bit and I put my leg on and he pops right over I then go to another small on he has never see and with less hesitation he jumps it. I continue this and then make up a long course containing 15 jumps. I take him though the entire course at the canter some of the jumps he has jumped before and some of them he hasn’t. He refuses only 2 and hesitates to a few. I then do the course one more time and he jumps them all with slight hesitation to a few of them.
I cool him out as we walk back.
1-7-05 All right boy, are you ready to do some hunters??? You know you are. I tack him up and walk him out into the ring. I set up a hunters course before I get on with 4, 2’3’’ jumps around the out side in 2 lines one with a 4 stride separation and another with a 5 stride separation. I warm him up and do a few warm up jumps. I then take him around the course 2 times around. He has much better jumping form and now it can only get better with practice. His striding between the jumps is bad and he is not sure what to do. So to fix this problem I put down a pole in the lines where each stride should be. He bounces through the poles and has perfect striding to the jumps. I take him through about 5 times and then take the poles away and do it once more, the striding is not as good as it was with the poles but it is much much better.
I cool him out and un-tack him.

1-8-05 Hey there Hero!!! Good morning today we will work on jumpers. I tack him up and walk him out to the ring I set up a jumper’s course with jumps varying between 2’ and 2’6’’. I warm him up and go over the 2’ jump first, he jumps it then I go over a 2’3’’ jump and he goes over no problem. I then take him over a 2’ 6’’ jump and she leaps over it putting a little more into it. I take him over the 2’ 6’’ one a few more times until he is okay with it. I then do the jumpers course, which has many tight turns. I take him through once turning as tight as I can using my outside rein and bending him around my inside leg. I continue to do the course over as he slowly gets better and better. I do the course a total of 5 times and he is tired out and cannot go on without being pushed too much.
I un-tack and groom him
1-8-05 Okay boy you have been working really hard the last few days so we will just do some flat work. I warm him up and take him around I do some canter halts, which he remembers clearly. I then work on lead changes and then do a little dressage with him. He seems to enjoy the dressage because it is the one thing that is not completely new to him lol. I ride him for about 30 minutes and give him a good grooming and fresh water.
Good boy I’ll see you tommrow

1-9-05 Hey Hero!!! How are you today? Hero sways in reply to the question. What do you want to do huh? Well how about we start the day off with a little cross-country. Your getting so good at everything! I grrom hero and check the pressure points on his back. Hey easy boy i say as he sways his back trying to say leave me alone. I just want to make sure everything is sound after all this work you've had, you are a very athletic horse you know. He is perfectly sound so I tack him up. I take him out to the ring to warm up and then we walk out to the cross-country course. I gallop him around the feild and then bring him down to a canter and point him at the first jump. He looks at the jump but does not hesitate. You getting there boy. I take him to another jump that he has jumped before and give him the decision to jump or to duck out of it he jumps and i reward him. I then take him to a jump he has not seen before and take him over it, he looks at it but jumps. Every jump I take him to he consistantly looks at. That will only be improved with practise and as he gets more comfortable with jumping. I come up with a small 8 jump course and do it twice. He does well both times and has no refusals. I then make up one more course that has long distances inbetween jumps, i take him trough the course and make him gallop between jumps and binging him up to the canter before the jumps. he performs beautifuly.
I cool him out walking him in and give him freash water back at the barn.
1-9-05 You know what we are doing this aftenoon? Cross-country!!! Yes that is right it is a cross-country day! Now we will learn water. I warm him up on the way out to the cross country course and jump three jumps when we get out there then i take him to a small stream. I ask him to walk in. He takes a few staps forward then drops his head and backs refusing. I kick him and he walks for ward and i praise him. Once again He starts to back up I kick him and he continues to back so i tap him with my crop and she moves for ward a bit and then stops and again begins to back i put my leg on and then WACK! He geets the message and trots forward he hesitantly steps into the stram and i put my leg on slightly and he goes through. I give him lots and lost of pats. I take him back and forth through the stream and he has no problems.
I jump 3 jumps and then take him back to the barn.

1-10-05
Ok boy this is it i am going to do jumpers with you for your final session! I tack him up and lead him out to the ring. I first make a jumpers course will all the jumps set to 2' 6". Then I have one line that has a jump and then 3 stides and I make that jump 3'. I warm him up and I jump a few jumps. I take him trought the course and at first he is surprised by the last jump and knocks it . then do just that line again and he clears it nicely. I do the course again this time I ask for the corners to be tighter and the pace to be faster. He jumps nicely. I do the course one more time as if it were a jump off and I reall ask for everything. Some of the striding is wrong but he doesn't touch a thing. His form is not perfect but he enjoys the thrill. I pat him and tell him he was good.
I take him back and give him a good final groom. I give him freash water and a big hug. I've had fun boy and i know you did too. You have come much farther than i expected and you will make a fine hunter and a jumper you would aslo make a wonderful Eventer. You have exceptional talent. I will see you again and maybe you will come back. I know I will see you at the shows to show off your new found talents.
Well melanie here you go you new boy he is a wonder I highly suggest you work with him a bit and then sign him up in some shows, I sugges the upcoming show jumping show in a low level maybe a 2'3'' class should be the max. He can do course up to 2'6'' but in shows don't exceed 2'3'' for now. Also you could enter him in a low level eventing show, beginner novie until he is comfortable with cross-country. Also I insist you enter him in the dessage show coming, in novice level he has a really good chance at winning.
