"Hey, Dark, easy there! It's ok! Come see your stall!" I lead Darkest Night into his stall, which I have carefully prepared. I'm not sure what to feed him, so I just give him a warm grain mash with a lot of goat milk in it. The result looks something like really milky oatmeal. He eats it ok, and looks like he want more. I laugh, and give him a bit. I groom him, and walk him up and down the foaling barn's aisle. I don't want to take him outside until he gets a clean bill of health from the vet. When we come back to the stall, I groom him again, and give him a last hug as I leave.

"Hey, boy!" I say. "I had to change your name; now your Prince of Midnight." I lightly go over him with the currycomb and take him out to louge him. He does awfully. "You need some training, don'tcha, Midnight?" I take him back into his stall and give him the formula that the vet gave me. "Do you like that? Huh, do ya?" He bobs his head as if he is nodding. I crack up. He looks at me as if I am crazy; which only makes me laugh harder. When I finally am able to catch my breath, I give him a good grooming. I hug him, say, "See ya tomorrow, Mid!" and leave.
