i just adopted Sammy last night . . . . hey there little filly, easy girl. you'll be all right. you're going to be in a stall now! not out all alone in a pasture in the wind and rain. i lead her slowly down the isle of the barn. the other horses' whinnying is frightening her. i keep talking sweet to her, and it kind of helps. i lead her down near the end to Ash's stall. before i bed her down i want to introduce them. when we get to Ash's stall he's got his head over his stall door as far as he can get it, which isnt very far cuz he's just a pony. silly Ash! when Sammy sees Ash she stops and wont move for a while. but Ash nickers real low and she relaxes a little, they seem to get along pretty good, who knows, maybe i can put them both in the same stall! lol she slowly walks up to his stall and cranes her neck up to snuff his nose. they smell eachother's noses for a while and then she squeals and crow hops on the end of the lead a little, you can tell she's playful! then she walks back up to his stall and they smell eachother some more. Ash nickers really low and she does a little high piched whinny. then i lead her into the stall next to his and leave the tops open so they can still see eachother. i dont give Sammy much to eat until i get a reply from the vet, but before i go i toss in a little bit of hay just for her to chew on and get used to. i also find some bran mash that i warm up for her since im not sure if i should be feeding her grain when she's so little. well Sammy, i hope you like it here! i'll take really good care of you i promise! when i come near her stall door she shies to the back of the stall, but i talk really quiet and low and eventually curiosity draws her out of the corner. she doesnt come up all the way, but it's a start. well, i've gotta go, i hope you like it here little filly, have fun with Ash! and Ash you take good care of her! lol bye Sammy!

hey Sammy, how are ya little filly? when i come into the barn she and Ash have their heads over the stall doors sniffing each other and playing. when Ash sees me he nickers, but when Sammy sees me he ducks her head back in the stall. i go over to Sammy's stall and peek in. she's hiding in the back of her stall tossing her head with the whites of her eyes showing. easy girl easy girl . . . im not gonna hurt ya, youre ok, easy there, easy, . . . . . . i walk into her stall talking to her, shes so scared shes shaking and almost has a heart attack when i touch her. i stand and think for a minute trying to decide the best way to clean out her stall, not that its very dirty. i finally decide that shes gotta get used to me sometime and just try to clean it out while shes in it. i reach out and grab the shovel, when she sees it she half rears. i shut the stall door so she cant get out then prop the shovel against the stall wall near her and go to the other corner of the stall from her and squat down. shes still shaking and her eyes are rolling but she takes a step toward the shovel after a minute. she cranes her neck out and just barely touches the handle, she sqeals and jumps back, tossing her head. then curiosity gets the best of her again and she comes foreward, but this time she doesnt spook when she touches it. after a while i start talking to her and then humming. after a while she takes a step toward me. she reaches out and sniffs my arm, then jumps back, but not far. after a little bit she takes a step back toward me, sniffing me again. she sniffs up and down my arm, and then tries to take a bite out of my shirt. hey! she jerks her head up when i yell at her but soon has her head back down trying to eat me again. she's got a baby doll face and you can tell that if she didnt have rain rot she sure would be beautyful, except she already is! i reach up and touch her fuzzy face, she tenses up, but when i begin humming again she relaxes a little. finally i get up and grab the shovel, she retreats to the back of the stall again, but this time she isnt quite as scared. i clean out her stall and then go to get her more water. after the water i toss in a flake of hay, since she cleaned up the stuff from yesterday. then i mix her up a scoop of grain and some cornoil, but i dont give it to her yet. instead i get the bottle of stuff the vet gave me for her rain rot. i come up to her and shes really scred but i talk to her and start rubbing the stuff on her coat lightly so as not to hurt her. she seems to like it even though shes half scared to death, it must feel good. finally when im done i bring in her grain. then i go out of her stall so she can eat without being scared. bye Sammy, ill see ya tomorrow!

hey Sammy, hey little filly. how are ya? i walk up to her stall, she doesnt act quite as scared today. you wanna go outside Sammy? i walk over to Ash's stall and grab his lead rope, i snap the lead rope onto his halter and lead him out of his stall. then i go to Sammy's stall and grab her lead rope too, she's scared of me but lets me put her lead rope on because Ash is with me. i lead them both outside into the sun. i lead them out into the pasture and let them both go. Sammy takes off at a gallop, bucking and kicking. Ash looks at me and then takes off after Sammy, trying to act as spunky as he can even though his legs arent that strong yet. i watch them for a while. its their first time to meet eachother out of their stalls, so they sniff noses and squeal and then take off running, nippping playfully at eachother. i stay for a while longer until im sure they'll get along alright. then i go and clean out their stalls. i wash out their water buckets and fill them again with cool fresh water. then i get them their hay and then mix up their grain and cornoil. then i go back out and watch them run around some more. after about an hour i get Ash and take him back in to the barn, leaving Sammy outside for now. after a while i come back out to the pasture with the bottle of oinment for her rain rot and a lunge line. i set the bottle down and walk into the pasture. i try to walk up to her, but she takes off running. luckily the pasture isnt too big, so i dont have to go very far to catch up with her again. i walk after her, humming the same tune i was humming last night. she runs away a couple more times, but i keep walking after her and eventually she lets me get pretty close. i stop and reach out my hand for her to smell me, then i take another step foreward, she tenses, but before she can run i've got the lunge line on her halter. she tries to pull back but i dont give her much slack. easy girl easy, . . . im humming again, trying to calm her down. then i back up, letting slack out and try clucking to her to see if she'll lunge. she spookes and tries to run but hits the end of the rope and starts to go in a circle, good girl! you're actually lunging!!! she gallops full blast, trying to get away, but i keep talking to her and watching her and eventually she begins to slow down, so i yell a little to keep her going pretty fast. finally she begins to lower her head, then i quickly stop shouting and let her slow down. once she stops with her head lowered i turn around and dont look at her. finally she aproaches me and sticks her muzzle on my shoulder. then i slowly turn around and rub her forehead. thats a good girl, see, im not that bad am i? yeah, we'll get along a lot better now wont we, thats a good girl. i scratch her forehead some more and then lead her over to the fence where i put the bottle of ointment for her rainrot. i pick up the bottle and let her smell it, then i rub it in on her coat gently. when im done doing that i walk her around slowly and let her cool down, then i lead her back to her stall and put her in. bye Sammy, see ya tomorrow!

hey girl, how are ya? when she shes me she doesnt act scared, but shes not happy to see me. i walk into her stall and rub her forehead, she doesnt try to get away. good girl, looks like yesterday helped huh!? you wanna go outside again today? i grab her lead rope and lead her out side into the pasture. i turn her loose and she take off bucking and kicking. once she settles down i go back into the barn and clean out her stall. then i rinse out her water bucket and fill it up again with clean water. then i get her hay and grain. then i grab a LikIt that i bought that just magically appeared and hang it up in her stall for her. then i go grab the bottle of oinment for rainrot and go out to the pasture. i hop the fence and go over to where shes grazing. she doesnt run so i start rubbing in some of the oinment. i start talking to her and her ears flick back so i can tell shes listening to me. i keep talking to her and gently rub the oinment all over her coat. when im finished i put the bottle down and keep talking to her. i rub my hands all over her to get her used to me so when its time to be broke to ride shes somewhat used to it. once i've done that i just stand there talking to her for a while. once i've figured she's had enough grass i grab her lead rope and take her back to her stall. thanks for being a good girl Sammy, see ya tomorrow!

hey Sammy! how are ya little filly!? i got some somewhat bad news for you Sammy, Ash gets to go home Friday! which is ok, except that you'll have to be here all alone. but dont worry, i'll still be here! lol, ;D i walk into her stall and reach up and pet her head *so soft!* ;D then i drop a kiss on her nose ( ;D) and lead her outside to the pasture. i turn her loose and she takes off, kicking up her hooves, lol. i watch her run around for a while, she canters down the fence, then suddenly turns and does a little hopping dance on her tippy-hooves, then digs in and take off full blast the other direction, kicking out and sideways at the same time, arcing her neck and bucking, then coming to a sliding halt, only to do it all over again. i laugh and wish i had my camera. then i go back in the barn and clean out her stall, and wash out her water bucket and fill it again, and then i get her hay, then i mix her grain and cornoil, and then i realize her LikIt is already gone! Holly Cow! she must rally like those things!! i get her another one (apple flavor) and hang it up in her stall. then i grab the bottle of ointment for her rain rot and head back outside. I whistle for her (even though i dont expect her to come, but maybe i can teach her to) and squeeze between the bars of the fence. then i head over to her, humming the same tune. she pricks her ears forward at the formiliar sound. hey baby girl! how are ya!? you like this grass huh!? i rub her forhead and talk sweet to her, and eventually she relaxes a little bit. thats a girl, lol then i rub in some of the ointment for her rainrot. the i grab her halter and lead her around for a while, just talking sweetly and humming the tune. we just keep walking the fence and before i know it twenty minutes has gone by. then i turn and rest my forhead against her forehead, breathing in her sweet horsie scent, *sigh* its heaven! ;D then i clip her lead rope back on and let her graze,, holding onto the lead rope and walking with her, just like i did when i was a really little kid with my 27 year old, blind in one eye, swaybacked gelding Earl! aww, the good ole days! ;D after another twenty minutes or so of grazing i decide its time to go back to the barn. when we come down the isle toward her stall Ash has his head over his stall door and nickers for her! oh Ash, you must know that when you go home Sammy doesnt get to come with, but dont worry Sammy, you just be good and hurry up and get better and you'll be able to come home soon too! dont you worry! lol, i put her back in her stall. ok Sammy, i gotta go, ill see ya tomorrow, bye miss filly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey Sammy, i know i already fed you today, but i just checked with the farrier and it turns out you have a minor case of thrush! poor girl! so i didnt want to wait until tomorrow to soak your feet in water with this powder! poor girl, dont worry, we'll get ya better! lol i grab a shallow pail and fill it with somewhat warm water and mix some of the powder the farrier gave me into it. then i bring it into her stall and let her smell it so she knows its not the boogy man. then i set it down and try to coax her to get her front hooves in it, she doesnt like it at first and spills some of it on me, but eventually she calms down and allows me to put her hooves in it. i stay there for about ten or fifteen minutes letting her soak in it, one hoof at a time. then i take her front hooves out. then i move to her back feet, hoping she doesnt feel like kicking me. it goes better this time now that shes done it before, shes a fast learner!! lol, after another ten minutes i take her hooves out and go dump out the water. there ya go girl, hopefully that will start to help! luckily i cleaned her stall and filled it up with new straw so shes not standing in much right after i soaked her hooves!! lol, ok Sammy, i'll see ya tomorrow! bye bye!!!!!!!

hey Sammy! How are ya little filly!? hungry!? i walk up to her stall and rub her forehead, for once she doesnt quite act annoyed or scared to see me, still not happy to see me, but it make me feel good anyway! I grab her lead rope and lead her outside and turn her out into the pasture. She takes off running as usualy and plays her little game, cantering toward the end of the pasture, then turning and taking off ful blast bucking and kicking back the other way! I laugh at her and head back into the barn to clean out her stall. I clean it out and fill her water and toss in her hay. Then i go mix her grain. Then i go and get her ointment for her rainrot and get a tub of water and the powder the farrier gave me to soak her hooves in. I go out into the pasture and go up to her with the tub of water. She must remember from yesterday because she doesnt try to run. She actually stands nicely grazing while i soak one hoof after another for ten minutes each in the water. once i've soaked all four hooves i grab the bottle of ointment and rub it into her coat, it seems to be getting better i think. well Sammy, i just realized i gotta go. i lead her back into her stall. bye sammy

I lead him around the pasture along the fence and then turn him lose. I stay there til he gets used to it, then I go get Sammy from her stall and lead her out to the pasture too. I turn them loose and let the get aquainted, but i stay near by incase they start to fight, lol ;D The sniff noses and sqeal at each other. Then Dancer (lol) tries to nip her neck and show her he's gonna be the boss, lol, she squeals and turns and tries to kick him, then takes off across the pastur. He snorts and acts hurt that she should dare kick him, then bolts after her. She lets him catch up to her, then when hes close enough she tries to kick him again. He skids to a stop and snorts. When she keeps going he takes off after her again, only this time he doesnt let him self get kickd, instead he goes wide around her and stops right in front of her. She skids to a stop behind him and he wheels around and bites her on the neck. She half rears but he moves in and bites her again and herds her back to the middle of the pasture. Then he nips her on the hind quarters once more for good measure, just to make sure she knows he's boss. I laugh at her expression. He snorts once more and starts to graze, but Sammy just stands there with her hind end towards him pouting. lol, i laugh and go over to her and rub her forehead and sneak her a carrot, Lance sees it and jerks up his head, all right all right, lol, i go over and give him a carrot too. I stand next to him while he grazes talking to him and leaning against him. I stay there for a few hours before I have to go. Alright you two, lets go. I lead them back to their stall and make sure they have everything. See ya tomorrow guys! bye!!!!
